eyesinlawgolf

My eyes will be ok. The doctor told me that Jaden "took a chunk" out of my eye, but that it wouldn't do any permanent damage. It's feeling better already, but no Costello glasses for me.

My inlaws are in town and it's soo good to see them. I whipped up on everyone in cards last night, I hope they stick around for a while anyway...

They also brought me their old piano for my birthday. It's pretty sweet. We just have it in the living room dinning room area right now, the perfect place for me to annoy everyone in the house.

My eye doctor (who happens to go to Riverview) invited me to play in his foursome in the charity golf tourny next month. I've only golfed twice and the last time I had 56 in 9 which I was happy with, but I need some more practice before I play. Me and dad-in-law are going out to the course tomorrow.

left eye

I did something yesterday that I haven't done in over 20 years. I cried because of physical pain. It was my cute little son that caused it. He stabbed my eye with his finger. It still hurts so I think I'm going to see an eye doctor today if I get the chance. I just read online that rubbing is bad. So I'll probably be half-blind by tomorrow, but maybe this means I can get some cool Elvis Costello glasses that my 20/20 vision has not afforded me the opportunity of having.

In other news. Jeff got tickets for four of us to see Wilco in Indi. It's actually a benefit concert for Reilly Children's Hospital that is the hospital where Suzanne was treated (and life saved) from her crazy blood disease called Evan's Syndrome. That's why we are going =).

We got back from Lake Erie on Saturday. It was great to have time with my family. It felt lonely though without my dad. Something was missing and we all felt it. It's hard to know what to do with these feelings. We are back into living our life fully, but at the same time, it's easy to just get sad when I think of him not being here.

We pay him in Cheerios

Nostalgia

It feels like fall today. I sometimes miss my college days. Cedarville had it's share of demons, but I also had so many good experiences there. These days remind me of fly fishing in Cedar lake, taking walks with suzanne down main street, playing gigs at Bean's 'N Cream with William's boot, or hitting the Yellow Springs street fair with the guys from the Hill. I remember eating black bean burgers at Jamie and Andy's and our thursday night book club at Andrew Huss's, where we'd drink Mike's Hard Lemonade and hope that no prudish RA's would show up. So tonight I'll throw one back to the great memories at the 'ville, I wish it could be with Dan and Andie, or Shane and Erin, or Scott, Jeff, Andrew, Jamie or Andy, or even DK. Miss you guys.

ahhh

I'm had fun playing at the fair last week, but I'm really glad it is over also, just so I don't have to have four practices a week, it was getting to be pretty crazy. I'm in a bit of a blah mood right now. Suz and I are working on the budget. She's not super happy with her job right now, so that sucks. Her boss is wanting every free second of her time, it's pretty unrealistic. Anyways, that makes for crazy life for us. The thing is, is that she likes working at the crepe shop and business is doing good. There's just all these extra expectations put on her that are crazy. She doesn't make enough money to do this!

Like I said, I'm in just a blah kind of mood. I'm excited about some things and people. And some things and people have dissapointed me lately. I guess that's how things go. That's what we should expect. Our job is to be faithful and grace-filled despite that.

Sorry to leave a moody post today.

yesterday

Well, we had fun playing last night. Thanks to everyone who came out. You made us feel loved. It was cool to see people sitting there singing alone with us.

I also met Switchfoot yesterday. Weird. I was trying to find the fair director who had promised us free tickets, and I hear "is Dan Price around?!!!" It was the fair director calling me. I went over to her and said hello.

She grabbed my arm and whispered "I want you to be my special guest to meet Switchfoot backstage."

I looked at Suzanne who couldn't hear what was going on and said "Suz?"

The fair director (Sally) said "oh you want to bring your friend?"

"Sure."

So we line up single file to go backstage with about ten preteen girls with nervous smiles and pictures of Switchfoot ready to be signed. We went in and lined up with our backs against a wall. I thought we were going to be last in line, but we turned out to be first.

The guys shook our hands introduced themselves, asked our names and moved on. Then a couple came back and started chit chatting for a few minutes. They were pretty nice guys. I felt bad that I didn't know their names or any of their songs, and I think they knew we weren't die-hard fans, but they were cool with that anyway. We got into talking music a bit and I mentioned Wilco and a couple of the guys heard and were like "those guys are awesome, beautiful songs." Appearently they opened for Wilco a few years ago. Then we left. I'm never washing my hand.

dj jazzy jeff

hey if you go to Riverview and are a musician, listen up. We are looking for someone who can improv well on piano with a tasteful ear (knows when to play and when to hold back) who would be interested in using effects on some songs aka Radiohead. The tools we have to offer you are keyboards and the Korg Kaoss pad that lets you modify effects in real time. It's pretty cool. We are also interested in finding a really good dj for various purposes. Let me know if you are this person!

Bono

Thanks to Steve for the link to an article that you should read about Bono "salty dogma"

coffee shop

When I was in college I worked at a couple different coffee shops becuase I loved the atmostphere, Van Morrison playing through the radio, regulars telling stories, sumatra steaming hot, making it's way into a head that needs caffine. Anyway there are a few pretty decent coffee shops around here, and there is a new one that, in my opinion is the best it's Gone Wired Cafe on Michigan on the same block as the Green Door. The place is huge and has many different spaces within the one coffee shop. On section is full of computers you can rent time on, another is a section with toys for kids, another has wood flooring and is pretty much an art gallery. The prices are great too. Tip: park on the road becuase the lot is covered by meters. Good stuff.

TuesdayIsh

Ok, Ish is playing at the Jackson County Fair at 4pm next tuesday. Please come on out if you get the chance. Admission is like $4 a person. Stay around and watch Switchfoot if you like them. Tickets to their show is $17 plus handling fee. I will pay you to come out so we aren't just playing for the goats and 4H kids.
