Social Justice

These statistics are staggering. How do we respond?

Well, there's some of that stuff that is pretty positive actually. However, mostly I think that people need to find Christ first, then they'll have a purpose for giving sacrificially.

Some of the statistics are ok I guess, but many of them are appalling. I agree that Christ is the one who gives us purpose to live sacrificially. That's what makes me want to respond.

I'm still thinking about how to respond Dan, it's actually a pretty big burden of mine to figure out what it means to be a Christian who seeks to live a peace-making life in our world today. But I DON'T think our response ought to be to marginalize the injustice in the world by being concerned with evangelism first. I think if we really know God we will be concerned with justice, kindness, etc. (Jer.9:23-24,22:13-16, esp.16). I know the best gift we could ever give someone is to introduce them to Jesus, but we have no right to do that if they are starving to death. These are just my first reactions though, I am interested in what others are thinking...

i think the key is in the title of this post "social justice." it seems to me that the problem is our social structure, and the many injustices it has created. although ultimately not responsible for greed, our social structure certainly facilitates and encourages greed. the game is to gather as much money as you can and there is simply no room to give to others. our system has disguised the injustice of this as a mode of survival. that is, the system won't work if charity becomes a priority AND we feel as though we will need that money later to survive. just some random thoughts, but it seems to me that our entire social system is based on a faulty foundation
