help please?

Ok. We just changed internet providers from SBC to Comcast yesterday. I bought a cable modem ($5 w/rebate!) and I still have my wireless router. The internet connects when I use Ethernet from the modem into my computer, but not when I go from modem to router to wireless. Any suggestions?

Depending on how old your router is, and the brand... it could be setup to use PPOE, which works through DSL but probably is not needed with Comcast cable modems. I think Comcast just uses DHCP. Two things to check..

1. Is PPPOE enabled in your wireless router configuration. If so, switch to straight DHCP.

2. Does Comcast require your MAC address (hardwired into your network card) to connect. Most wireless routers will allow you to "spoof" your computer's MAC address, but you probably have to enter it.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, I remember you Dan, how's it going?

Sonny is working with a company called Flannel (formerly Fringe), and is writing/directing/editing the NOOMA film series that you may have heard about, since you're familiar with Rob Bell's book.

His work email is santino@flannel.org, but don't be put off if you don't get a response right away, he gets like 4,000 emails a week. Heck, I'm his best bud and have a hell of a time getting to the kid.

Will's nailed the problem on the post above, #2. Check your manual. It should be as easy as connecting to the router and cliking a "Spoof MAC Address" button. Or pick the "I guess Mac's are perfect computers."

you dont have to use your mac address with comcast. (altho you'll pay 3 times as much with comcast v sbc, but i know why you switched). you do need to reset the mac cloning device on the router. other than that, you should be all set. And I love Sean's post!!!
